Amankila, perched on Bali's eastern coast, represents a contemporary reinterpretation of traditional Balinese architecture. The design responds to the dramatic coastal topography through a series of elevated pavilions and walkways that cascade down the hillside, offering breathtaking views of the Lombok Strait. The project's form is inspired by the terraced rice paddies characteristic of the region, creating a harmonious dialogue between built form and landscape.
The resort's architecture emphasizes indoor-outdoor living, with spaces that blur the boundaries between interior and exterior. Traditional Balinese building techniques and materials are reimagined through a modern lens, incorporating local bamboo, alang-alang thatch, and volcanic stone. The design carefully considers environmental factors, utilizing natural ventilation and deep overhangs to provide comfort in the tropical climate while minimizing energy consumption.
Each guest pavilion is thoughtfully positioned to maximize privacy and views while maintaining a connection to the surrounding nature. The three-tiered infinity pool, inspired by the water palaces of Karangasem royalty, serves as the heart of the resort, creating a dramatic focal point that mirrors the ocean beyond. The project exemplifies how luxury hospitality architecture can be both culturally sensitive and environmentally responsible while providing an exceptional guest experience.
